About Hahnemann

Hahnemann was born on 10 April 1755 at Meissen in Saxony of Germany.
His father, Gottfried Hahnemann, was a porcelain painter and his mother was Johanna Christiana.
He completed his MD degree from Erlangen University in 1779. The subject of the thesis was “A consideration of the etiology and therapeutics of spasmodic affections.”
Hahnemann began his medical practice in the year 1779 at Hettstedt.
His first book was published in the year 1784 at Leipsic, and the name of the journal was “Treatment of Scrofulous Sores.”

In the same way Hahnemann received great opposition in the years 1811-1843. In spite of the great opposition he was the last person to surrender; he wanted to show them that he was not afraid of it. Hahnemann wanted us, the physicians, to be bold, to be courageous. "Aude Saphere = Dare to be wise" Hahnemann knew the dangers of being a wise man, he knew the risk of introducing new ideas which are against the prevailing beliefs and dogmas.

In year 1830 Dr F.H.F.Quinn brought Homeopathy to Britain. He established British Homeopathic society in 1843 and British general of homeopathy in the year 1844. In 1978, a group of lay practitioners established their own society of Homeopaths, a Register, College, Journal and Code of Ethics.

In the year 1820 Homeopathy came to America via Dr. Hans B. Gram, a Dutch Homeopath.
In the year 1844, the American Institute of Homeopathy was established in Philadelphia and Boston.
In year 1847 the American Homeopathic Medical Association was started.
In the year 1876 the American Institute of Homeopathy held its first international congress.

In the year 1944, All India Institute of Homeopathy was established.

In the year 1973, Homeopathy was recognized as system of medicine by Government of India.
In the year 1995, Government of India established a separate department in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to emphasize more sustained growth and development of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.

At present there are 182 Homeopathic colleges with a total admission capacity of 12,000 per year.
